Safe and Easy Grilling Tips
When you’re ready to fire up the grill, be sure to keep in mind some grilling tips to ensure everything remains safe and enjoyable. In general, always consider the temperature of the grill and make sure it’s never left unattended. Keep an eye on kiddos and pets and definitely close the lid whenever you’re not using it. When the heat is on quite high, keep your distance and use mits or tongs to work with the meat and vegetables.
Try these grilling tips, too:
- Check the amount of propane in the tank ahead of time, if applicable.
- Make sure the closest hose in the yard is connected and ready for use in case of emergency.
- Use a meat thermometer to avoid removing the meat to check for doneness.
- Use tools like tongs, spatulas, and basters .
- Scrub the grill after each use and clean it thoroughly once or twice each season.
- Always let the meat rest after removing it from the grill (this applies to indoor cooking, too!).
Depending on how warm it is outside, grab a few glasses of water and tasty refreshments like iced tea, too. When it’s really hot, it’s important to stay hydrated when working in front of a hot grill. And even while grilling in warm weather is always welcoming, there’s no reason to wait for the sun to shine! Here in the Pacific Northwest, cloudy days shouldn’t stop you from enjoying day to day activities like grilling. So even on those chilly days, don a sweatshirt and get out there! It’s always fun to try new things and experiment with different methods of cooking whenever the grilling season rolls back around.
